1. Discuss Heathcliff--from the formation of his identity to his actions at the end of the novel.  What motivates his actions? Does he change at the end?

    Discuss Cathy (mother) and Catherine (daughter)--how does one character continue the issues and goals of the other?

2.   Discuss the relationship of the main character to the shadow in  "The Black Cat."
OR
      Discuss the relationship of the main character to the double in ""Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been."

3.  Discuss the Underground Man's ambivalent attitude toward the "normal" man.  How does this pertain to the "modern" man, according to him?
OR
What are the Underground Man's criticisms of the scientific attitude?  What does he propose as alternate values?

4.  Discuss Hamlet's central ambivalence and how it is resolved.

5.  Discuss the relationship of Bartleby to the narrator in "Bartleby The Scrivener."
