American Dreams Explanation of research paper (5-6 pages) I would like each of you to write a research paper at some point in the course. My hope is that the topic of your paper will grow out of class discussion and that your paper will go beyond what we have done in class. There are several ways to go about finding a topic. You might continue an analysis or interpretation that was suggested in class. You might take a completely different tack. You might research an author, time period or literary style. You might learn more about a concept or issue that is useful in understanding a literary work. In order to assure a fruitful research process and a good grade, you should follow these required steps: First, talk over your idea with me. At this point I will either approve it or suggest changes. Next, begin your research and your work. Discuss your progress with me so that we can agree on any changes that you might need to make. Finally, continue your work, write the paper and hand it in. Also hand in a photocopy of relevant pages from the source that you used the most. If you don't follow these steps, you risk my not accepting your paper. If you get the paper to me early enough in the semester, I will give you a chance to rewrite it to improve your grade. |
