Suggested schedule of assignments
for Module One

Week One:

Read "Preliminaries" and let me know where you stand with regard to these matters.  Set up an account at an Internet Service Provider and/or find a site to host your portfolio.  Let me know when you have done this.

Read "An introduction to the course"

Read chapters one through three from Introduction to HTML

Read mini-lecture on HTML, SGML, etc

Read mini-lecture on rhetoric

Week Two:

Read chapters five and six from Introduction to HTML

Read the "Getting Started" and "Sending Files." from FTP tutorial at the HTML Pit Stop.

Read mini-lecture on the World Wide Web

Do Portfolio Project #1--Create a basic text-only Web page with information about you and publish it to your Web site.  Let me know when you have done this and what the URL is.

Week Three:

Read chapter seven from Introduction to HTML

Do Site Design Exercise and send it to me.

Do Portfolio Project #2--Create a basic Web page with graphics and publish it to your Web site.  Let me know when you have done this and what the URL is.

Week Four:

Read Mini-lecture on design

Do Interface exercise and send it to me.

Do Web site evaluation exercise. Send it to me.

Begin designing your personal home page.  Keep a log of  the structural and design decisions that you make as you go along. 

Week Five:

Do Portfolio Project #3--Publish your personal Web page to your Web site.  Let me know when you have done this and what the URL is.  Also, send your design log to me.

Review Module One Exam study questions

Take Module One Exam at a Kirkwood center.
