Types of Site Designs

There are a few basic structures  that the overall Web site may take.   Below are the types of structures that most Web analysts seem to agree on.

Linear--A linear site is one in which that users must follow a straight linear path.   There are no choices other than to go from beginning to end. Example: The Vietnam War (a pictorial essay)

Network--A network structure is one in which, even though there may be a home page through which users access the site, after that they have choices as to what parts of the site to visit next, and there are multiple connections among the various pages on the site.

Hierarchical--A hierarchical site is structured so that after the initial page, users can go down one branch or another.  After following one branch, they must return to the home page to go down another branch.

Database--A database structure is a collection of data that the users can access, usually by searching. Examples: Yahoo
